YOGA NIDRAS AT LEAPING WATERS (and what is yoga nidra anyway?)

Yoga Nidra is a practice of guided meditation. In the most comfortable reclining posture, such as on your back with a bolster for your legs and a blanket under your head, rest your senses, body and mind as the teacher takes you through a sequence to slow down your brain waves. When brain waves slow, you find more spaciousness and perhaps enter a dreamlike state. This process is mentally rejuvenating and offers deep physical rest.

Yoga Nidra addresses all the layers of yourself, from physical to emotional, encouraging you to feel more whole and embodied. With practice, yoga nidra helps you to be more objective, to release unhealthy or toxic thought patterns and to connect with your true, infinite self.

In the meditation, we explore the felt sense of experiences and emotions that contrast each other, such as exploring opposites like happiness and grief, confidence and uncertainty, anxiety and peace. One aspect of yoga nidra is body scanning, and this in itself is a healthy practice that has been researched and show to increase body wisdom and emotional well being. For more on this, read from Understanding Yoga Therapy by Marlysa Sullivan or other research about the rotation of consciousness or body sensing in yoga nidra.

Yoga Nidra is a restorative and meditative practice you can enjoy and benefit from for your whole life, even during illness, injury or any kind of recovery. Over time, you may find you can self soothe, rest or sleep more readily, and experience life just as it is, through the ups and the downs, with more contentment.
